Leaving Texas

I never thought I’d leave Texas. Earlier this year I remember re-affirming to a friend that I’d always live here. I might live in Austin or somewhere in west Texas. I might not necessarily buy a house, but I’d be around somewhere to call the Lone Star state “home”. I love the state, its history, […]

July 18, Fredericksburg: The weekend before last was a trip to Fredericksburg, TX.  Along the way in Johnson City, I stopped by the Johnson Settlement.  I’m ashamed to admit I’ve been playing Frontierville on Facebook a lot lately, and this park screamed “real life homestead” to me so I had to go look around out […]

It feels like such a great sin not to be doing something out in the sun after work. Nevertheless the past several weeks I’ve been bored and sick of the apartment in the evenings and cycling hasn’t been appealing to me, so I’ve taken up walking. I usually go for a 3-4 mile walk (not […]

Zipping

Today was a new experience, zipping across a zip line!  I found a place called Cypress Valley just outside of Austin that offered “eco tours” in their cypress trees.  Basically this entailed a group of 6-7 being led down several zip lines while our two guides handled our gear and explained something about what was […]

More scene and scenery

At a last minute urging I went to the Austin “get-Google-to-lay-FTTH” Big Gig party last night. I got to catch up with some of my colleagues from my last job, and met several new people, including (surprisingly) a group of attractive, chatty young ladies who were there as part of the co-“tweetup”. A good time […]

Clouds and scene

Since we’re being dragged kicking and screaming into the great scam that is “cloud computing”, I decided to go try it out sight unseen. I’ve wanted a VPS in Singapore with IPv6 for a while, and somebody pointed out that Voxel has a dual-stack cloud offering in Singapore.  I punched in my info, hit order, […]

Cedar allergy hell

I am officially alergic to cedar pollen. It’s everywhere. Constant sneezing, runny nose, very itchy eyes. I started taking Zyrtec which helped some, then changed to Claritin-D. I bought a HEPA filter the other night and have been running it full blast in the bedroom. Still having problems with sleeping, hopefully I’m wore out enough […]

Freak weather

It was quite stuffy in my apartment last night, I turned on the AC and went to bed. This morning I wake up to a frosty 33 F day; it was quite chilly in the apartment. This of course is only second in comparison to it being 81 F at noon last Tuesday then plunging […]

It’s animal kingdom around here. When I first moved in, I had three squirrels munching on the oak tree just off my balcony. Then the deer roaming about. Last month there was a pair of bucks walking down by the mail center. This month while walking out to my truck there were four raccoon crossing […]

6th street people watching

Last night was spent hanging out at a fire station downtown visiting some of Lorie’s friends/acquaintenances. Great night for sitting outside chattering and people watching. Some of the more memorable people: All the girls on their way to 6th street wearing high heels and very short “skirts” All the girls who shouldn’t be wearing skirts […]
